ὦ παῖ παρθένιον βλέπων
δίζημαί σε, σὺ δ’ οὐ κλύεις,
οὐκ εἰδὼς ὅτι τῆς ἐμῆς
ψυχῆς ἡνιοχεύεις.

O boy with a maidenly glance, I seek you out, but you do not hear me, not knowing that you are the charioteer of my soul.

A famous fragment. The final word of the second line is an emendation by Erfurdt; perhaps it should be κοεῖς, which also means ‘you do not hear/notice’.

τὸ δ’ αὔριον τίς οἶδεν;

Today is my concern; as for tomorrow – who knows?
